AVELLA

Fred Avella

Born in 1975 into a family of stonemasons for 4 generations, Frédéric Avella was immersed in the family business from an early age. At the age of 12, his father taught him to polish, cut and carve stone and marble. At the age of 21, the town of Sanary on the Côte d'Azur chose him as supervisor of the renovation of several fountains and statues. His work is the result of the influence of pop culture, cartoons and comics on the design industry. He created "Freud", his first series of sculptures, by which he expressed his intention to demystify certain animals by assigning them deliberately exaggerated proportions and curves. The keyword is to parody the iconic character in a fun and even burlesque way, while keeping in mind what the animal's image represents in modern culture, since it is often used by brands and for sports mascots. However, the characteristics of the animal remain the same: loyal, courageous, devoted, powerful and strong. Frédéric Avella creates, revisits and customizes his subjects by giving them an aesthetic pop art touch and bright colors....
